By using a little creativity and purchasing a few inexpensive items, you can provide entertaining party games of all varieties to keep your 10 year old and his friends engaged and physically active for hours at a time.
The Artist
This game requires a large pad of drawing paper, a blindfold and a drawing implement, such as a washable marker, crayon or pencil. Tape paper to the wall at the appropriate height for the artist. Start the game by instructing the artist to draw something basic, such as a house, while blindfolded. The other children take turns offering suggestions on what to add to the drawing. Everyone gets a suggestion and then the artist is allowed to take off the blindfold and see what she has created.
Ballon Pop
This game requires chairs and balloons for each participant. The blown up balloons are aligned on a wall near where the chairs are positioned, side by side. The participants start on the opposite side of the area. When the race starts, the children rush over to the balloons. Each puts one on his chair and then must use only his body weight to pop the balloon. After popping the balloon, each child races back to the starting position. The first one back wins.
Dragons and Snatchers
Dragons and Snatchers is a game where one child plays the dragon guarding his egg, which can be a small ball or object. The Snatchers attempt to take the dragon's egg and return it to their base. The dragon can freeze a snatcher by touching her. Unfrozen snatchers can tag frozen snatchers to unfreeze them. The snatcher who gets the egg back to the base gets to choose the next dragon. If all snatchers are frozen, the dragon chooses who plays the dragon next.
Goldilocks
This game requires blankets or coverings for each player. One child is chosen as the daddy bear and leaves the room while the rest of the children hide under the blankets or coverings. Once all the children are under a cover, the daddy bear comes back into the room. Daddy bear must then walk up to one of the children covered up and say "Who's sleeping in my bed?" The child must answer "Goldilocks" by disguising her voice as much as possible. The daddy bear guesses who is hiding under the covering. If the guess is correct, the other child comes out from under the blankets. If the guess is incorrect, she says "No" and remains hiding. The last child under a cover is the winner and gets to be the next daddy bear.
Question Ball
This game requires a large inflatable beach ball. Write questions all over the ball in permanent marker. Everyone forms a circle and one person throws the ball to another child in the circle. The child catching the ball must answer the question that is touching his right thumb. The child who answered the question then tosses the ball to another person in the circle.
