U.S. News & World Report regularly compiles a list of the top cancer hospitals in the United States, ranked by factors such as reputation, level of nurse staffing and relative death rate.

M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, No. 1

Located in Houston, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is not only rated as one of the top cancer hospitals in the country, it also has a reputation as a leading pediatric cancer center, ranking 13th in the nation in this category. It is part of the University of Texas system.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, No. 2

Ranked as the second best cancer hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, Memorial Sloan-Kettering also houses the top pediatric cancer program in the country. It is located on the East Side of Manhattan in New York City.

Johns Hopkins Hospital, No. 3

One of the top teaching hospitals in the nation, Johns Hopkins not only shows up as a top-5 cancer hospital, it ranks in the top 20 in 16 different adult medical specialties. It is in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mayo Clinic, No. 4

Located in Rochester, Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic is world-renowned for being one of the leading teaching hospitals in the world, and was ranked fourth overall for cancer treatment in the United States by the magazine.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, No. 5

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston is an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and admitted 950 patients in 2007, according to U.S. News & World Report.

University of Washington Medical Center, No. 6

Located in Seattle, the University of Washington Medical Center ranked sixth in the country in cancer treatment and care. Over 77 percent of surveyed patients who received treatment there reported they would recommend the hospital to a friend or relative.

Massachusetts General Hospital, No. 7

Boston is the only city to have two of the top 10 cancer facilities in the country. Massachusetts General Hospital made the list at seventh in the nation. It also ranked in the top 10 in 13 different adult medical specialties.

University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, No. 8

As the eighth best cancer hospital in the country, the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center received high grades for patient satisfaction and nurse-to-patient ratio.

Duke University Medical Center, No. 9

Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke University Medical Center earned high honors for its reputation among physicians, as well as a low death rate when compared with other hospitals across the country.

Stanford Hospital and Clinics, No. 10

Housed on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, Stanford Hospitals and Clinics ranked number 10 on U.S. News' list of the top cancer hospitals in the country. It is a teaching hospital.
