Ryan Gosling's Big Regret in Life Is Kind of Adorable

One of the most endearing male celebrities, Ryan Gosling opened up about regretting quitting ballet. See what he had to say.

Love him or love him, no one can deny Ryan Gosling is a man of many talents. From learning jazz piano in just three months for the critically acclaimed "La La Land" to wielding guns with partner Russell Crowe in "The Nice Guys," Gosling will try everything once — making him one of the most endearing household names in Hollywood.

While the 36-year-old built his career by tackling challenges and opportunities head-on, there's one thing that still makes the actor uncomfortable — ballet. In an interview for the October issue of The Red Bulletin, Gosling revealed his discomfort with ballet and his wish that he had continued taking lessons as a child, US Weekly reports.

"I had been training [in ballet], but never got to the point where I was comfortable with it," the actor said. "It was a struggle for me. I had an option to do ballet when I was a kid, but thought it was too girly."

The Academy Award-nominated actor went on to explain he wished he had dedicated his time to ballet, especially because of the many health and fitness benefits associated with the art form. Aside from the aesthetic qualities of ballet, it boosts strength throughout the body, increasing cardio endurance and developing flexibility, balance, agility and coordination. With time and consistency being the key factors in receiving these benefits, it's no wonder Gosling is regretting his decision to quit at a young age.

Today, Gosling seems to be taking a "better late than never" approach, revealing during a 2011 appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that he's been taking occasional classes to make up for lost time. "I take like a class, like a public class," he said. "I'm terrible. Everyone is good except for me…. I'm so bad at it and unflexible that they have to bring out a special barre when we do the barre work part of the class."

While ballet may not be his strong suit, Gosling did return to teach the late-night TV host the waltz, a dance he mastered during his role as Sebastian in "La La Land." With his clean waltz footwork and proven funky moves from this resurfaced childhood dance video, the actor can surely advance in his adult ballet classes — and maybe even take his newly acquired talents to the big screen.

If you're interested in taking up ballet, here's more on how it can help your fitness level.
