Thrush results when a fungus called candida grows in your mouth, explains MedlinePlus. You can minimize or eliminate oral thrush by restricting certain foods from your diet. According to Women to Women Clinic, antibiotic treatment, poor diet, parasites, and illnesses that weaken your immune system like AIDS are linked to creating an environment that is conducive to candida overgrowth. If you restrict certain problematic foods to cure candida overgrowth for three to six months, you can most likely slowly reintegrate the foods into your diet.

Sugar

If you have oral thrush, completely eliminate sugar from your diet for three to six months. Sugar can come in many forms, such as fructose, lactose, glucose, sucrose and others. Some foods also contain sugar, but are less obvious like salad dressings, bread and dairy. Bread, especially white bread, quickly turns to sugar in your digestive system. Whole-grain breads should also be avoided, because they contain yeast, which is a different type of yeast than candida, but is good to minimize at the beginning of your diet. Avoid all types of sugar, regardless of their derivation.

Dairy

Avoid dairy, which is a good example of a type of food that seems to not have sugar, but contains lactose. Plain yogurt is an exception to the dairy to avoid, because it is helpful as a probiotic, which is "good" bacteria that help to regulate your levels of bad bacteria and yeasts, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Because yogurt is still a dairy product and contains lactose, eat it sparingly. An alternative to yogurt is a probiotic supplement.

Fermented, Fungus-Based and Moldy Foods

Candida yeasts thrive from a fermentation process, so most fermented, fungus-based and moldy foods should be avoided. These foods include soy sauce, cheese and mushrooms. Along with oral thrush, you may experience digestive issues, such as gas, bloating and "bubbling," because the yeasts cause the food to ferment instead of digesting, leaving you with fewer nutrients. Also, the yeasts ferment sugars into alcohol, destabilizing your blood sugar level and resulting in increased sugar and carbohydrate cravings.

Alcohol

Avoid wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages. Since the candida is producing alcohol in your digestive tract, adding alcoholic beverages makes the problem worse. Wine and beer are the main alcohols to avoid, because of their high yeast content.
