Kahlua is a coffee-flavored liqueur made of coffee, vodka and sugar that serves as an ingredient in a variety of cocktails. Kahlua and cream, for example, consists of equal portions of Kahlua and heavy cream mixed together. A beverage comprising 1.5 ounces of 53-proof Kahlua and 1.5 ounces of heavy cream adds 325 calories to your diet as fat, alcohol and sugars, with a minor amount of protein. The cream portion of this cocktail also adds low levels of vitamins and minerals to your diet.

Fat

The cream in a 3-ounce serving of Kahlua and cream contains nearly 17 g of fat, and, at 9 calories per gram, supplies almost half the calories in this beverage. The bulk of the fat is saturated, an unhealthy type of dietary fat associated with cardiovascular disorders. Your diet requires a modest amount of fat for optimal health, as it contributes fat-soluble vitamins, keeps your cell membranes in good working order and provides fuel. However, the fat in Kahlua and cream is not the best kind to consume in large quantities.

Alcohol

Your body can derive 7 calories of energy for each gram of alcohol you drink, and the 11 grams of alcohol in 3 ounces of Kahlua and cream provide roughly one-quarter of its total calories. The alcohol this drink contributes to your nutrition contains no other essential nutrients, such as vitamins or minerals. Therefore, similar to pure sugar, alcohol is considered a form of empty calories.

Carbohydrates

The sugar content of Kahlua supplies most of the carbohydrates in Kahlua and cream, with just over 24 grams in a 3-ounce cocktail. The cream portion adds 1 extra gram of sugar for a total of 25 grams of carbohydrate. The sugars in this drink provide a ready source of energy all the cells of your body can use for basal metabolic needs as well as for fueling your activities. The carbohydrates in Kahlua and cream account for approximately 30 percent of its total calories.

Protein

Although protein is a vital macronutrient, and the protein in cream is high quality because it contains all your essential amino acids, a 3-ounce portion of Kahlua and cream offers less than a gram of protein to your diet. This beverage is, therefore, a poor source of protein to meet your body's needs.

Vitamins and Minerals

Kahlua delivers few vitamins or minerals to your diet, but cream offers these nutrients in varying amounts. For example, the cream in 3 ounces of Kahlua and cream supplies you with almost 25 percent of your recommended daily intake for vitamin A. It also provides you with 6 percent or less of your daily vitamin D, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus and calcium.
