Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid (Augmentin) is a combination antibiotic often prescribed for pneumonia and ear, skin and urinary tract infections. Amoxicillin is in the same antibiotic drug family as penicillin. Clavulanic acid helps prevent bacteria from inactivating amoxicillin.
