In your body, you have a pH balance that is determined by the amount of acidity and alkalinity that is present. On a scale that goes from 0 to 14, 7.4 is considered ideal. If you are way below 7.4, then your body is acidic and you can experience symptoms such as indigestion, pain in the chest, nausea, feelings of hunger and belching. The way to make the body more alkaline is by making some major dietary adjustments.

Step 1

Eliminate the acidic foods from your diet. There are a lot of foods that are highly acidic and they need to be eliminated from the diet. Some of these include refined sugars, deep fried foods, processed foods, meats, corn, eggs, dairy products, beans and fish.

Step 2

Eliminate the acidic beverages. Beverages that you consume can also add to an acidic body, and there are certain ones that should be eliminated. Anything that is high in sugar should be avoided, such as soda, sweetened teas, processed fruit juices and sports drinks. Beverages that contain caffeine should be avoided, such as coffee, tea and energy drinks. Lastly, beer, wine, hard liquor, mixed drinks and any other form of alcohol should also be avoided.

Step 3

Eat alkaline foods. In lieu of acidic foods, there are alkaline foods and these are the ones that your diet should mostly consist of. Some examples are kale, collards, sprouts, baby spinach, apples, apricots, avocados, cucumbers and fermented tempeh.

Step 4

Drink greens drinks. Greens drinks are powdered supplements that you add to water. They are very alkaline and they generally consist of wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina, kelp and blue-green algae. Drink these one to three times a day to help increase your alkalinity.

Step 5

Test your pH level. To find out if your dietary adjustments are working, get some pH strips to test yourself. Place a urine or saliva sample on the strip and when it turns color, match it to the chart on the kit. If it is really yellow, you are still acidic and if it is green then you are alkaline. The corresponding pH numbers will also be shown next to the colors.
