Larger Breasts and Belly

Your breasts are preparing themselves for breast-feeding. Around 28 weeks you will notice they are becoming substantially larger. Your belly is also expanding at this time as your baby is developing and growing rapidly.

Braxton Hicks Contractions

A common symptom at 28 weeks is braxton hicks contractions. These are fake contractions signaling that your body is getting ready for the big day. These contractions are usually mild and disappear on their own. In the event that they become strong or more frequent, you should contact your obstetrician. This could be a sign of preterm labor.

Heartburn and Hemorrhoids

You may experience heartburn and/or hemorrhoids around 28 weeks into your pregnancy. The uterus is now pressing on the stomach, which sometimes causes the acid in your stomach to regurgitate into your esophagus. Over-the-counter Tums are considered safe during pregnancy to relieve heartburn. The growing fetus may also put pressure on the rectum, which may cause hemorrhoids. Anusol and Preparation H are approved for use during pregnancy to alleviate the pain and pressure associated with hemorrhoids.

Skin Changes

You may begin to notice stretch marks around this time as your skin begins to stretch. Some women also develop a brown "line," which extends from the navel to the pubic bone. This is called linea nigra and is believed to be associated with the hormones of pregnancy.
