Warm Compression

"Natural Health" magazine advises using heat to alleviate swelling. Fill a water bottle with warm water or soak a cloth in hot water. Apply it to the cheek where the gum is swollen. Leave it on for about five minutes. Repeat as needed.

Baking Soda & Water

Baking soda and water may reduce the swelling, according to the Mother Nature website. Mix plain baking soda in a bit of water to make a paste. Then, using the fingers, apply it to the swollen gum line. Doing this will help to clean the mouth and neutralize acidic bacteria. Brush your teeth after using this remedy.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has been used for hundreds of years. Aloe contains compounds that may ease inflammation and stimulate tissue regrowth. Put aloe on a finger and gently massage it onto the swollen area. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that aloe vera can interact with other medications. Speak with your health-care professional before trying this remedy.
