How to Make a Cheeseburger in the Oven

 by Darla Ferrara

Cheeseburgers are often associated with stove-top cooking or frying, but there are more healthy ways to prepare your burger. Frying tends to keep the oil and grease near the meat where some is absorbed. Baking allows some fat to drain out of the patty without diminishing the flavor.

Cheeseburgers are often associated with stove-top cooking or frying, but there are more healthy ways to prepare your burger. Frying tends to keep the oil and grease near the meat where some is absorbed. Baking allows some fat to drain out of the patty without diminishing the flavor. By adding a few extras before baking, you can enhance the flavor and stretch the meat to make more patties.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Crumble the ground beef into a mixing bowl. Add your seasoned bread crumbs to the beef, and mix thoroughly with a spoon or your hands.

Step 3

Add the Worcestershire sauce and shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and mix.

Step 4

Chop and add any vegetables that you want in your burger, such as onions or garlic.

Step 5

Roll a handful of the mixture into a ball with your hands. Press the ball down in your hand to create a patty.

Step 6

Place your patties on the top rack of a broiler pan or on a baking dish with a drip pan. This will allow the grease to drip away from the meat.

Step 7

Place your pan or dish on the top rack of your oven, near the center.

Step 8

Bake your burgers for 15 to 18 minutes or until the patties brown all the way through. Remove the sheet from the oven, and add a slice of cheese on top. Bake for an additional 2 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Step 9

Remove the pan, and set it on top of the stove. Move each patty onto a bun.

Tip

If the patties feel too loose, add more bread crumbs.

Use a different cheese on top of your burgers to add to the flavor. For example, Colby jack cheese will complement the taste of the shredded cheddar.

warning

Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the raw meat.
