Khloe Kardashian Hates Pork? And 9 Other Foods Celebrities Refuse to Eat

 by Hillary Eaton

While the foods the stars rely on for their svelte and fit physiques often receive the most attention, it’s the foods that these celebs refuse to eat that may actually be the weirdest

Overview

It's hard to go a day without hearing about the latest celebrity diets. Everyone wants to know which foods stars eat for their fit physiques, but it's actually the foods they don't eat that's even more interesting. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that stars like Taylor Swift, Chrissy Teigen and Jimmy Fallon have some pretty strange food aversions. Whether it's because they're following strict diets or simply are picky eaters, here are the most unexpected foods your favorite celebrities absolutely refuse to eat.

1. Tom Brady, Nightshade Vegetables

Being one of only two men in NFL history to ever win five Super Bowls, sports legend Tom Brady is obviously doing a few things a little bit differently than everyone else — and the same can be said of his diet no-nos. The New England Patriots quarterback adheres to a strict regimen when it comes to his eating habits, and that means avoiding nightshade vegetables (like tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes and peppers). While Brady hasn't directly explained why he won't eat them (aside from the fact his wife Gisele Bundchen doesn't eat them either), it's likely that he may be like many people who are sensitive to nightshades and suffer from a host of unpleasant side effects. Brady also refused to eat strawberries until recently, saying he simply never had the desire to eat them before. Whatever you say, Tom!

2. Khloe Kardashian, Pork

The reality star recently opened up via her app that she has never and would never eat pork. In fact, she has said she'd rather gain 10 pounds than eat it. While some of us can't imagine a life without the simple joys of bacon, Kardashian says she can't even have it in her vicinity. "I don't think I have ever had pork in my home, nor would I," she explained. Turns out that Kardashian may be onto something when it comes to many of pork's most popular forms. "Definitely a good one to leave out of your diet if you're looking for optimal health," explains nutritionist Meg Donahue, founder of Mamasezz, a plant-based meal delivery service. "The World Health Organization found consumption of processed meats (like ham, bacon, sausage and hot dogs) raised your risk of colorectal cancer by as much as 18 percent." Ugh.

3. Chrissy Teigen, Tops of Egg McMuffins

The model and cookbook author is all about living a healthy life while still indulging here and there in the things she loves — and that means the occasional McDonald's Egg McMuffin. But while Teigen does allow herself to live a little, the new mom has one rule: She always removes the top slice of the English muffin in attempts to make it "healthier." But does taking off the top of the muffin make enough of a difference to make the splurge worth it? Unfortunately, the breakfast hack still may not cut it. "I would suggest forgoing the entire Egg McMuffin," Donahue says. "It's loaded with the three things that contribute to decreased health and increased weight gain: saturated fat, refined sugar and excess salt."

4. Gwyneth Paltrow, Corn

While Paltrow takes a lot of heat for some of her more bizarre health and wellness rules, one of the more common things the actress avoids is corn. Paltrow began a no-corn diet back in 2016 as part of a cleanse and stuck with the practice (Paltrow's health coach Dr. Frank Lipman discourages eating <ahref="https: www.huffingtonpost.com="" margie-kelly="" genetically-modified-food_b_2039455.html"=""> </ahref="https:>corn because he says the majority of corn in the U.S. is processed and genetically modified). But if you can get your hands on the good stuff, corn might actually have some positive health benefits for you, after all. "If you steer clear from processed corn (like high-fructose corn syrup) and GMOs, corn isn't the nutritionally void food we often think it is," Donahue explains. "Organic whole corn has carotenoid antioxidants (these help keep eyes and skin healthy), and it's high in fiber, vitamin C and magnesium."

5. Karl Lagerfeld, Lunch

The eccentric clothing designer is famous for his particularities — from drinking nearly 10 cans of Diet Coke per day to having an entirely separate house just for eating. But the "food" that Lagerfeld simply will not eat might just be detrimental to his health. The 84-year-old refuses to eat lunch. While we're sure he's busy coming up with some of the most lust-worthy clothing out there, skipping lunch can have some seriously negative effects on your body.

"Going without lunch makes you less productive," Donahue explains. "You need brain food, and your brain uses 20 percent of the energy you eat. When you eat infrequently, your blood sugars can get out of whack too — spiking and dropping — which leaves you spaced out, dizzy and irritable." Even worse, it may mess with your overall diet plans. "If you go without lunch you may find your healthy eating plans thrown out the window come dinnertime. We're much more likely to not only overeat, but to overeat high-calorie foods when we're hungry." Sorry, Karl.

6. Laird Hamilton, Fruit That Isn’t In Season

Because surf legend Laird Hamilton is all about keeping it 100 percent in and out of the water, he stays away from alcohol and cuts out refined sugars. He also won't eat fruit for large parts of the year when it isn't fruit-bearing season, citing that prehistoric humans didn't have yearlong access to fresh fruit. But you may not want to practice seasonal abstinence when it comes to nature's candy. "Fresh fruit is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Including fruit in your diet can reduce the risk of chronic disease like diabetes, heart disease and hypertension," Donahue says of the benefits of fruit. But, on the other hand: "Any effort to be environmentally friendly is great, and choosing fruits that are in season can limit food mileage."

7. Ina Garten, Cilantro

While the beloved Food Network star has won over our hearts and stomachs on "The Barefoot Contessa," Ina Garten has one mortal enemy: cilantro. It seems that this popular herb can be surprisingly divisive (people tend to love it or hate it), and there may actually be some scientific method behind the madness. "Some say cilantro has a "soapy" aftertaste," Donahue tells us. "And it turns out this may be genetic. Folks who dislike cilantro may all share a group of olfactory-receptor genes." But Garten may actually be missing out on some of its health benefits. "Cilantro, like many fresh herbs, is brimming with nutrients, particularly vitamin K, which we need for healthy bones and blood coagulation."

8. Jimmy Fallon, Mayonnaise

If there is one thing that Jimmy Fallon hates more than anything on earth, it just might be mayonnaise. Fallon, who has repeatedly spoken out about his distaste for the staple, saying it reminds him of puss (gross!) and avoids it at all costs. But while many of us go for a squeeze of the stuff on our favorite sammies, Fallon's mayo aversion may be in the best interest of his health. "Traditional mayonnaise is basically shelf-stable eggs and fat in a jar. That should give you pause," Donahue says. Think you're being good by going vegan with it? Think again. "Even vegan mayonnaise is mostly fat — its primary ingredient is oil," Donahue continues. "One tablespoon of mayo adds up to 90 calories to your sandwich and 10 grams of fat, or 15 percent of the recommended daily allowance. The high fat content from oil is especially bad for people with heart disease and hypertension."

9. Taylor Swift, Sushi

If you're one of those people who finds raw fish over rice less than appetizing you aren't alone. In fact, one of the world's biggest pop stars shares your sushi hate. While Taylor makes fun of herself for her "uncool" distaste for sushi, the singer might be saving herself some dietary problems in the long run. "The biggest nutritional drawback for sushi is it can be loaded with sodium and sugar," Donahue says. Whaaat?! Yeah (sad face). Not to worry — as with everything else, moderation is key! Here is best and worst sushi to order.

10. Ariana Grande, Bananas

Following the discovery of a recent allergy, Ariana Grande has put bananas on her no-eat list. Which, it turns out, is basically the only good reason to not include bananas in your regular diet. "Bananas are one of the most convenient and nutritional fruits available in the U.S.," Donahue says. "They are 75 percent water, a good source of fiber and packed with vitamins, including vitamins C and B-6 as well as minerals like potassium, copper and manganese." Bananas for the win!
