During your teen years, your oil glands tend to be overactive, producing more oil than normal. This leaves your pores clogged with a combination of oil and dead skin cells and results in pimples and blackheads. Your first instinct might be to squeeze out these blackheads.

During your teen years, your oil glands tend to be overactive, producing more oil than normal. This leaves your pores clogged with a combination of oil and dead skin cells and results in pimples and blackheads. Your first instinct might be to squeeze out these blackheads. While that is a viable option of removal, you must perform it in a specific way to prevent damage to your skin.

Step 1

Use a mild cleanser to wash your face twice a day. This removes surface dirt, oil and dead skin cells. Use warm water to open your pores and make them more receptive to acne treatments. Pat your face dry.

Step 2

Apply an acne medication containing salicylic acid to your spots. Anywhere you have a blemish, dab on this cream. If your breakouts are widespread, cover your entire face. This will help unclog your pores and slough off dead skin that could clog your pores in the future.

Step 3

Apply an oil-free moisturizer all over your face twice a day. This will keep your skin hydrated and prevent the salicylic acid from drying out your skin.

Step 4

Remove blackheads manually. Use an alcohol-free astringent to cleanse the blackhead. Use cotton pads to cover your fingers. Press down around the blackhead and push upward. Repeat this process around the entire blackhead. The material clogging the pore should pop out. If not, apply a cloth soaked in warm water to the blackhead for several minutes to loosen up the material inside. Repeat the extraction process.
