KCET's 2nd Annual Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival
KCETLink will be hosting its 2nd annual Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival on Saturday, April 21st at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica, California.
Across the globe, human, animal and plant populations are suffering because of climate change: According to the latest statistics, more than 35 consecutive years of above-average global temperatures have led to 7.5 inches of sea level rise, deadly droughts and flooding and more extreme and frequent natural disasters. To raise awareness about green issues and solutions, KCETLink is presenting a full day of environmental films at its second annual Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival. The all-day festival, which is open to the public, will go from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica, California.
The event will kick off with a screening of environmental shorts from the University of California, Los Angeles' Laboratory for Environmental Narrative Strategies (LENS) program, followed by four acclaimed films tackling the most important and relevant global environmental issues today: "March of the Penguins 2: The Next Steps," "Evolution of Organic," "The Last Animals" and "Jane."
The festival will then close with the premiere of back-to-back episodes from the new season of KCETLink's "Earth Focus," which explores how environmental changes are forcing all living creatures to adapt in order to survive. The first, "Earth Focus: Sea Level Rising — Living With Water," explores how Louisiana is learning from Hurricane Katrina, while the second, "Earth Focus: Climate Migration," follows populations that are dramatically shifting as climate change drives migration.
Eco-enthusiasts and celebrities, including "Shameless" actress Sharon Lawrence and "Better Call Saul" actor Patrick Fabian, will be introducing each film and moderating post-screening Q&As that will feature filmmakers and leading environmental experts. Attendees will also be able to explore educational booths from local environmental organizations, including Heal the Bay, River LA, Sierra Club, Citizens' Climate Lobby, Save Our Surf and L.A. Works.
Following the festival in May, Earth Focus will be airing its new season on KCETLink and on its Earth Focus Presents website. This includes LIVESTRONG.COM's in-depth look into an eco-sustainable fish farm in La Paz, Mexico. "LIVESTRONG.COM's Fishing for Answers: What Is Sustainable Seafood?" will be airing on the Earth Focus site on May 23.
