This Is How Sofia Vergara's "Gigantic Boobs" Affect Her Workout

 by Leah Groth

Sofia Vergara may have a gorgeous figure, but the 45-year-old has a confession to make: her 32DDD boobs make exercising majorly unenjoyable.

Sofia Vergara has never been shy about sharing the details of her love-hate relationship with her large breasts. She has revealed in interviews that not only is it tough finding bras big enough to fit them, but her 32DDD "stripper" boobs (yes, that is what she calls them) are so big, she ends up bleeding under her dresses after a long night on the red carpet. Ouch!

The 45-year-old bombshell stripped down and bared her covetable curves for the cover of the "Naked Issue" of Women's Health, and she was also open about another huge drawback of having big boobs: They totally get in the way of her workouts.

"I can barely do a push-up," Sofia complained. "I wish I could be a little more athletic, but when you're born with these gigantic boobs…. I've had them since I was 13, and then they got bigger when I was pregnant and had the baby."

Vergara is not alone in suffering from the pain associated with larger breasts. According to a recent study, about half of all girls at secondary schools in the United Kingdom might be avoiding sports because of the embarrassment or pain caused by their breasts. Fifteen percent thought their breasts were too big to be able to exercise, while those with sizes larger than a D cup were more likely to opt out of exercising than those with smaller breasts.

Another 2013 study of 1,300 women competing in the London Marathon turned up similar results, finding that the incidence of breast pain in female runners with larger breasts was higher than with small-breasted women: More than half of women wearing a D cup or larger reported frequent breast pain compared to 25 percent of those who wore in A cup or smaller. They also discovered that breast pain impacted the way women trained, and those with sore breasts often reduced the intensity of their workouts or skipped them completely. This is why wearing a well-fitting sports bra is so important, pointed out the study's lead author Nicola Brown, who claimed they lessen breast pain in about 85 percent of women.

Some women — like Vergara's 19-year-old co-star Ariel Winter — opt to undergo breast reduction surgery to avoid the pain of big breasts. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 114,000 women downsized their breasts in 2014 — a 183 percent increase since 1997. In fact, many insurance companies even cover the procedure for women who show symptoms of macromastia (the medical term for big breasts) and experience pain. In fact, in a 2016 interview with Net-A-Porter, Vergara even admitted she will probably get the surgery eventually to reduce her discomfort.

Bottom line: Breast pain is a real — and serious — issue. If you suffer from any kind of exercise pain, it's always a good idea to talk to your doctor or physical trainer about options that are right for you.

While Sofia is likely the owner of several stylish and supportive sports bras, her breasts may limit the exercises she can do. The actress works out with a trainer three or four times a week, incorporating the Megaformer Pilates reformer. The combination of cardio, strength, balance and flexibility clearly does her body good, but it's far from an enjoyable experience for her. She actually said, "It's like torture." And she doesn't feel that post-workout high, either. "I'm in a bad mood two hours before, I'm in a bad mood while I'm doing it, I'm in a bad mood at the end because I have to schedule the next class."

Big breasts or small, we feel your pain, Sofia! Here are some of the best sports bras for women with big breasts and foods to avoid if you don't want a larger bust.
