Overview

Plastic surgery used to be a taboo topic, but as stars are becoming vocal about their procedures, the conversation around the topic is becoming more normalized. In 2017, there were more than 17.5 million surgical and minimally invasive procedures done in the nation, up 2 percent from 2016 and nearly 200 percent from 2000.

Read on to find out which of your favorite celebs have opened up about their decisions to get plastic surgery.

1. Cardi B

In a 2017 interview with Vlad TV, the 25-year-old rapper said that after years of wanting to get a breast augmentation, the insecurity she felt while working in a strip club finally pushed her to take the plunge. "I was never comfortable with my boobs. I think I've been saying that I wanted to get my boobs done ever since I was 16," she says. And so she did. "I TRUELY LOOOOVEEE MY BOOBS," she revealed in a now-deleted Instagram post. "My first expensive purchase. I shooked my ass real hard for these." Own it, Cardi!

2. Tyra Banks

As the host and executive producer of "America's Next Top Model," Tyra Banks knows that beauty often takes work. Earlier this year, the 44-year-old supermodel opened up about getting a nose job early in her career. "I admit it! Fake hair, and I did my nose," she tells People. "I feel I have a responsibility to tell the truth." Banks has made it her mission to stop the fetishization of "natural beauty" and show women that it's totally fine to change the way they look if it makes them feel happy and confident. "As a model, I needed makeup. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It leveled my playing field," she says.

3. Anna Faris

For Anna Faris, deciding whether or not to get a boob job meant struggling with her definition of feminism. "I always thought plastic surgery was caving in to 'the man,' you know? But it came down to a really simple thing: I wanted to fill out a bikini. What would that feel like?" she tells Women's Health. "I'm still floored that I did it, because I am a staunch feminist. I kept thinking, 'Am I betraying my own gender by doing this?'" After getting divorced from her husband of four years, Ben Indra, and wrapping "House Bunny," she finally decided to go for it. "I think that people should be able to do whatever they want," she says. Turns out, getting some work done and being a feminist don't have to be mutually exclusive.

4. Lisa Kudrow

"Friends" favorite Lisa Kudrow struggled with bullying and loneliness in middle school, so at 16 she decided it was time for a change. Namely, a nose job. "That was life-altering," she tells the Saturday Evening Post. "I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous. I did it the summer before going to a new high school. So there were plenty of people who wouldn't know how hideous I looked before. That was a good, good, good change."

5. Ariel Winter

From having chronic pain to being sexualized at a young age, Ariel Winter's size 32F breasts were causing many complications. "I had a lot of back problems," she tells Glamour. "It started to hurt so bad that I couldn't take the pain." Her breasts affected the way she was dressed on "Modern Family" (she was asked to wear big sweaters or strapped down in order to minimize her curves) and hurt her chances of being cast to play roles meant for girls her own age: "Once I developed, I couldn't really play 12 or 13 or 14 anymore," she says.

So she had a life-changing breast-reduction surgery, going down to size 34D. "It's something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that that can benefit a lot of young girls," she says. "I have felt more happy with myself than I ever have." Kudos, Ariel!

6. Jillian Michaels

Like Lisa Kudrow, Jillian Michaels was bullied as a child because of her looks. So she decided to tweak them. "I had my nose done when I was 16 years old, and I'll be honest, it did change my life," she tells People. "Not to say you should let your physicality define you, but there are some things that can make people feel really insecure. So if there is something you want to fix that allows you to feel a little bit more confident, I support it."

7. Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco decided to go under the knife at 18 years old, when she was thrust into the public eye while acting in the show "8 Simple Rules." "I started reading [online reports] and thought, 'Maybe I need to make more of an effort and not go out in my UGGs and be disgusting,'" she tells Cosmopolitan. The "Big Bang Theory" actress has raved about her decision multiple times. "I had no boobs!" she tells Redbook. "And It was the best thing ever! I always felt ill-proportioned. My implants made me feel more confident in my body."

8. Kelly Rowland

For Kelly Rowland, getting breast implants was all about being able to pull off the fashion looks that didn't fit quite right. "I was sick of not fitting into my tops," the former Destiny's Child member tells People. Incidentally, the piece that pushed her to finally get the procedure was a halter top designed by Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles. "There was this one really hot House of Dereon top — I just wanted to fill that out!" Though she admits that she was hesitant about it at first, Rowland was happy she took the time to think it over and advises others to do the same. "It is a decision I made for myself. I like it, and that's all that counts," she says. "For young people: Think about it before you just jump off and do something [you may regret later]."

UP NEXT: After decades of denying it, this actor opened up about getting eyelid surgery.

9. Betty White

At 96, Betty White managed to keep the years off her face, but not without a little help. In her sixth book, "If You Ask Me," the Emmy-award winner, who once denied ever going under the knife, opened up about getting blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, in her 40s. "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!" she told People. "But in 1976 I had my eyelids done. I scolded myself forever, but now I'm glad I did it." We're glad to see that this Golden Girl gave herself permission to accept and love her decision.

10. Snooki

A couple of years ago, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi got what she calls a "little mommy makeover" after breastfeeding left her feeling less than confident about her breasts. "Being a mom, your boobs are destroyed after having kids, especially breastfeeding," the "Jersey Shore" star tells People. And though she describes the surgery and recovery as "definitely painful," she's glad she went through with it. "I feel so confident in myself as a woman, as a wife, as a mom, so I kind of feel complete now," she says. "I want to feel sexy, and I want to feel pretty. So anybody that has anything negative to say about me getting my boobs done: Why do you care? It's not you, it's me, so why do you care?"
