How to Get Rid of Warts on the Neck

Warts are caused by a virus. Although they commonly appear on appendages like the hands and feet, you can get them on any skin surface, including your neck. You should turn to over-the-counter treatments as your first line of defense, according to MedlinePlus. If those treatments fail, your doctor can prescribe or perform more advanced treatments to remove stubborn warts.

Plantar Wart Up-Close

Step 1

See your doctor to make sure you have a wart and not another common skin lesion called a skin tag. Skin tags commonly occur on the neck and can look like warts. They're treated differently than warts.

Step 2

Wash your your neck with mild soap and warm water. Pat it dry with a clean towel.

Step 3

Hold a warm, wet wash cloth to your wart for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the top layer of hard, dead skin.

Step 4

Scrape away the top layer of skin with a pumice stone or emery board to help the medicine penetrate deeper into your wart. Don't scrape too hard or too deep to avoid bleeding and to prevent infection.

Step 5

Apply a this layer of the salicylic acid gel that comes with your wart treatment kit to your wart, then cover it with the wart removal pad. Purchase a wart remover pad that comes pre-treated with salicylic acid if it's more convenient and cost-effective.

Step 6

Repeat the cleaning, scraping and treating process about every 24 hours for several weeks until the wart is gone.
