Acne.org states that body acne scars, like those on the butt, are often more severe as the skin is generally thicker and the pores larger. The rubbing of clothing can irritate the acne and increase the damage that the lesion has on the skin, making the scar worse.
While you cannot get rid of acne scars completely, there are clinical treatments which can help reduce the appearance of the scarring on your posterior.
Step 1
Schedule an appointment to discuss dermabrasion for your butt acne scars. This technique will use a wire brush, which is spinning rapidly, to grind away at the surface of the skin. The surface layers, epidermis, will be removed. This not only reduces the appearance of superficial scarring but also helps promote new tissue growth by revealing the dermis, lower skin layers.
Step 2
Talk with your dermatologist about the use of a laser for butt acne scars. Laser resurfacing is a process whereby the epidermal skin is burned away. The dermal skin is revealed and heated. This stimulates collagen production and the growth of new skin, which is less scarred in appearance.
Step 3
Ask your specialist for cytotoxic injections for your butt acne scars. This treatment involves injecting antibiotic drugs, steroids and a drug called Fluorouracil, better known for its cancer fighting qualities. These can either be administered individually or together in a series of injections. They work by breaking down the scar tissue and so are best for raised fleshy scars.
Step 4
Schedule a chemical peel session with your dermatologist. The chemical peel is an acid solution that will burn off the epidermis and, depending on strength, some of the dermis. This removes superficial scarring and encourages the body's natural healing processes to grow new, less-blemished skin from below.
Step 5
Consult a surgeon concerning punch techniques for your butt acne scars. This involves surgically cutting the scar out of the skin. With indented scars, the tissue can then be reattached at an elevated level in alignment with the rest of the skin. If the skin is too badly blemished, then a skin graft can be taken from another part of the body, normally the area behind the ear.
