Kim Kardashian & Chrissy Teigen Pick an Unexpected Book Club Read

 by Leah Groth

Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen are starting a book club, and their first read may be shocking to fans as it has to do with health.

Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen just cemented their BFF status — they started a book club together. While imagining KimYe turning down a red carpet event for a night at home reading is tough, the most surprising element may be the title they've chosen. It's no light-hearted beach read but rather a memoir about a near-death experience that occurred during a surgery.

In perhaps the Kardashian's most intellectual venture yet, Kim revealed her and Teigen's first book club pick on Twitter to her 49 million followers earlier this week. "I'm making them read 'Embraced by the Light' as our first book!" Kim announced on the social-media site.

The 1992 book spent several weeks on The New York Times Best-seller list in the early '90s and is about author Betty Eadie's own near-death experience after a hysterectomy surgery gone wrong. The book details her spiritual experience and brief journey into the spirit world before she was revived by doctors. After its publication Eadie gained international notoriety and was even interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, the book club queen herself.

While it is hailed by the publisher as offering "astonishing proof of life after physical death," according to the author it is written for anyone struggling through a hard time — which may explain why it appealed to Kim. Actually, it makes total sense, considering what she has been through over the past year — from being held at gunpoint during a Paris robbery to Kanye West's breakdown.

"Its main purpose is to reach hurting souls and bring greater hope & quality to life, give comfort through hardship & loss of loved ones — and to help establish direction through daily living," Eadie explains on her website.

While most book clubs involve weekly or monthly get-togethers and bottles of vino, fans shouldn't expect an invitation over to Kim or Chrissy's mansions. While "everyone's invited" to join the club, according to Kim's tweet, there appears to be no tangible club per se. When asked by a fan what the club entailed, Teigen responded: "I think you just get the book and read, my dude / dudette."

At the end of the day, the duo's idea of a book club seems a little more like a simple recommendation on a good read than an actual club. But if you're looking to have a bit of a that "book club community" feeling while catching up on some of the best reads in the health and lifestyle sphere from the comfort of your own home, look no further than the LIVESTRONG.COM Healthy Reads Book Club.
