How to Be a Confident Woman & Not Need a Man

A confident woman is self-assured and feels comfortable in her own skin in or outside a relationship. Confidence is simply being yourself and embracing who you are -- to do so, you don't need a man at all. A confident woman is self-assured and feels comfortable in her own skin in or outside a relationship. Confidence is simply being yourself and embracing who you are -- to do so, you don't need a man at all. If you know where your talents lie, you should capitalize on them and incorporate your strengths into your career. Relationships are fine, but you can definitely do the work to be confident without a man on your arm.

Step 1

Know who you are. Understanding yourself is key to increasing your confidence, says McVicker. Writing a list of your strengths may help you focus positive energy on the activities in which you excel. Pay attention to fashion, books, hobbies, movies and sports you enjoy. Focusing on what you enjoy helps you get to know yourself better and become more confident.

Step 2

Spend time alone. Taking a break from the man in your life may help you realize who you are. Some women find that spending a lot of time with a man forces them to adapt to his views on various situations, and in time, the woman may lose her sense of identity. Psychotherapist Mark Sichel says a reason for this could be because "men have difficulty with being humble and women are challenged by a lack of self-confidence."

Step 3

Don't be intimidated. If the man you're seeing intimidates you and makes you feel less confident, you need to either get rid of him or not allow him to intimidate you. Hypnotherapist Anankah Chandler says to picture yourself pushing the intimidator away, then visualize shrinking him into a very tiny person in black and white. This visualization exercise will reverse feelings of inferiority and help you build up your confidence.

Step 4

Spend time with confident, single friends. Being around others who live the way you want to live can help you visualize how your life would be without a man. Discover what you like most about each of their lives and work to incorporate that aspect into your daily life.
