Mononucleosis, commonly known as the kissing disease, is a type of virus found in your saliva. The Mayo Clinic says that mononucleosis causes such manifestations as fever, fatigue, a sore throat and weakness. A headache, skin rash, night sweats, swollen tonsils, a poor appetite and a swollen spleen or lymph nodes are other monucleosis manifestations. Other diseases may have similar symptoms.

Cytomegalovirus

FamilyDoctor.org says that cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a chronic virus that typically affects two-year-old children and teenagers. This virus can lie dormant in your body even during adulthood. Like mononucleosis, CMV can be found in your saliva. However, it can also be found in your urine, blood, breast milk and semen.

Like mononucleosis, CMV's typical symptoms include a fever, sore throat, headaches, fatigue and swollen glands. CMV can also cause blindness, pneumonia, diarrhea and bleeding esophageal or intestinal ulcers, especially when you have a weakened immune system, says FamilyDoctor.org.

Treatment for CMV involves taking antibiotics or antiviral medications. However, treatment is not necessary if you are healthy, as this viral disease can resolve on its own, says FamilyDoctor.org.

Toxoplasmosis

MedlinePlus says that toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii. This infection typically results from blood transfusions, organ transplants, changing cat litter and eating undercooked pork, beef or lamb.

Symptoms of toxoplasmosis include a headache, fever and swollen lymph nodes. Other manifestations of toxoplasmosis include muscle pain, confusion, seizures and blurry vision.

MedlinePlus says that antimalarial drugs and antibiotics can treat toxoplasmosis.

Strep Throat

Strep throat refers to a bacterial infection in which Streptococcus pyogenes, or Group A streptococcus, is its main cause. The Mayo Clinic says that strep throat's symptoms include a sore throat, headache, fever and swollen neck lymph nodes. These are similar to mononucleosis symptoms. In addition, strep throat can also cause trouble swallowing, stomach pain, vomiting and swollen tonsils with white patches.

Antibiotic medications, such as penicillin or amoxicillin, and pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can be used to relieve your strep throat manifestations.
