Calorie Count

The size of a handful varies depending on the size of your hand, but the average adult's handful might contain approximately 10 cherries, and a calorie count in the neighborhood of 43 to 50 calories. Calorie King lists fresh cherries as containing 5 calories each; the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Research lists 10 cherries at 42.8 calories.

Density

Fresh sweet cherries are considered a low density food. Density is a ratio of the number of calories to grams of food. Cherries are low in calories.

Cherries and Health

A handful of fresh cherries may be beneficial to gout sufferers. The fruit may lower the uric acid level in some people, which in turn can cause a decrease in gout symptoms.
