SoulCycle’s Angela Davis Shares How to Kill It in Spin Class AND in Life

 by Laura Hertzfeld

Angela Davis speaks with LIVESTRONG.COM's Michelle Vartan about overcoming depression with SoulCycle, faith, and fitness.

Five-time All-American Team USA track-and-field star Angela Davis always thought she'd love being a stay-at-home mom. But while at home raising her kids, she began struggling with depression — to the point of almost not being able to function. When a Spin and yoga studio opened in their neighborhood, her husband lined up a job for her, saying, "You were created to be an encourager, and it's time to go."

What followed quickly became part of SoulCycle lore, as Davis' popularity as a motivational speaker and fitness evangelist exploded, leading to packed classes, a huge online following and speaking gigs alongside Oprah at her SuperSoul Sessions.

Davis has built a career on the SoulCycle mentality of blending fitness with inspiration, and her faith is a huge part of her teaching style and her life. "The way you do one thing is the way you do all things," she tells LIVESTRONG.COM's Michelle Vartan on the latest episode of the STRONGER podcast. "The way you ride your bike is the way you live your life."

Davis speaks candidly about the connection between faith and fitness, finding a routine that works for you and staying motivated by finding classes and workout partners that fit your lifestyle.
