Chris Hemsworth Gives Workout Advice Anyone Can Follow

 by Hillary Eaton

Chris Hemsworth just revealed the secret to his godly bod and it’s surprisingly simple: focusing on movement, flexibility, diversity and functional training.

If you ever wanted a body so fit it bordered on mythical, then Chris Hemsworth is just the celebrity to inspire you.

The 33-year-old "Thor" star is sharing his advice for gaining a god-like body — and it has nothing to do with expensive personal trainers or fancy equipment.

"If you can't afford a trainer, that's totally fine. Use friends; use anyone," Hemsworth told Men's Health. "Do a workout in your living room. It's really easy to jump online to find nutritional plans and workout routines and more. Ultimately, being fit is about motivation, and action creates motivation. Don't wait around for someone else to come push you. Push yourself."

Well said!

The Australian hunk keeps his workouts simple, focusing on movement, flexibility, diversity and functional training.

Hemsworth told W that while he may have been a bit more muscle-laden during his first run at playing Thor in 2011, he much prefers his current build. "I was probably a little bigger the first time around [in the role], but I felt very stiff and sort of uncomfortable."

To get himself to peak functionality — as well as to peak aesthetic appeal — Hemsworth has officially changed it up. "Now I add in a lot of other sorts of movement, flexibility and functional training," Hemsworth told Men's Health. "Bulk is nice, but being more agile is definitely important."

Foundation Training is key to Hemsworth's new-and-improved physique. It's a sort of training that involves focusing on painful areas and building them up without furthering injury. Originally shown to him by a stunt double who got injured, Hemsworth now swears by it.

"I used to stay away from an area if I was getting pain there. Just avoid movement there completely," Hemsworth told Men's Health. "Now, if I feel pain I focus on that area — not with a ton of impact because I don't want to create further injury, but I do make sure I'm moving more there to loosen everything up. I used to approach pain as a no-go zone. It's become the opposite; move it or lose it."

But besides Foundation Training, Hemsworth stresses just how important it is to keep your body guessing by mixing up your workouts. For Hemsworth, that means adding in things like box jumps between sets on arm days and diversifying with yoga, surfing and muay thai boxing.

"My workouts are also about being diverse and mixing things up," he told Men's Health. "It's easy to get bored. If I'm doing arm day, I'll work in box jumps in between sets. By working in more cardio, you keep shocking your body, and you prevent having problems in certain areas."
