Eat more raw foods. Foods that are alive and organic help your body to shed unnecessary weight naturally.

Eat good fats. Contrary to common belief, fats are essential to weight loss and body functioning, especially for growing teens. Most restaurant and store-bought food is made with low-quality, refined over-processed oils and fats. Eat good fats like virgin olive, coconut, grape seed, walnut or sunflower oil. Eat whole-milk products and full-fat yogurt. These types of fat do not make you fat when eaten in moderation.

Stop eating white bread. These products are lacking in essential nutrients. Because of this, your body often wants more. Switch to whole-wheat and other types of grains such as quinoa or millet for a more nutritious, well-rounded and filling diet that helps with weight loss.

Ditch the sodas. Soft drinks do not have nutritional value and are empty calories. Stay away from sodas, both regular and diet, and opt for real fresh juice or water instead.

Find an engaging way to exercise. Exercise is important and should be enjoyable. Try activities such as dancing, hiking, yoga or swimming. Walk at least 20 minutes every day. Limit Internet, TV, video game and cellphone time. Getting active every day, makes it easy to lose extra weight in the summer.

Eat dark leafy greens every day. Make salads or steam the veggies and have them with dinner. Some dark leafy greens to try include kale, chard, bok choy, arugula and spinach. Dark leafy greens help you lose weight by filling you up with dense fiber and nutrients.

Limit portions. Most restaurant portions are much too large for the average person. Eat a little bit less than normal for every meal and notice the difference in your weight.

Tip

Always eat dark leafy greens with olive, grape seed, walnut or coconut oil rather than a calorie-laden dressing.

warning

Eating dark leafy greens without high-quality fats can cause kidney stones.
