How to Clean Your Ears With Soap & Water

Using soap and water to clean the outside of the ear and plain water to clean the inside of the ear will suffice. Ear wax, while unsightly, does not need to be cleaned out unless under the direction of a doctor, according to the Kidshealth website.
Step 1
Wet a soft washcloth with warm water. Cleaning your ears while showering will be easier than trying to clean them at the sink.
Step 2
Lather your washcloth with soap. Gently rub the outside of your ear with the soapy washcloth. Be sure to wipe the front and back of your ear.
Step 3
Rinse the soap off of your ear completely. Allow a small amount of warm water to run into your ear. Tilt your head to drain the water.
Step 4
Shake your head to help dry the water out of your ear. Use a towel to dry the outside of the ear. Hold a hairdryer a few inches from your ear and allow warm air to blow into your ear on a low setting to finish drying the inside of the ear.
