These Minty Matcha Cookies Are Basically Homemade Oreos

 by Erin Mosbaugh

This Oreo cookie recipe features a creamy, minty-sweet filling. The best part? The cookies contain matcha, a powder made from antioxidant-rich Japanese green tea leaves.

There's nothing quite as impressive as homemade, fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies. Sure, you could make the ever-popular chocolate chip, or you can go rogue and make these Oreo-esque sandwich cookies that feature a creamy, minty-sweet filling.

The Greek yogurt-based filling gets its mintiness from peppermint extract and its natural greenness from matcha, a powder made from antioxidant-rich Japanese green tea leaves. According to matchasource.com, one cup of matcha green tea has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of brewed green tea.

The health benefits of these cookies don't end there: They're made with 100 percent whole grain flour as well as virgin coconut oil instead of butter or shortening.

While these cookies definitely feature good-for-you ingredients, be aware that they also have a good bit of added sugar and saturated fat-filled coconut oil, so you'll want to watch how many you eat.

Keep them chilled in the fridge or freezer and indulge in a cookie or two whenever you want to reward yourself with a a sweet treat.
