Few treats are more satisfying on a hot summer day than a soft serve ice cream cone. Although this dairy treat -- which you can enjoy in vanilla, chocolate and a host of other flavors -- is tasty, it's also high in calories.

Few treats are more satisfying on a hot summer day than a soft serve ice cream cone. Although this dairy treat -- which you can enjoy in vanilla, chocolate and a host of other flavors -- is tasty, it's also high in calories. Enjoying a cone on occasion isn't necessarily problematic, but if this treat becomes part of your daily routine, it can quickly result in your daily caloric intake creeping toward its recommended level.

Don't Sweat the Chocolate

The exact caloric content of your soft serve ice cream cone depends on the style of cone and flavor of ice cream. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, traditional, wafer-style cones contain 17 calories and waffle cones contain 121 calories. A standard, 1/2-cup serving of chocolate or French vanilla soft serve ice cream contains about 191 calories. If you enjoy your ice cream on a wafer cone, your total caloric intake is about 208 calories; on a waffle cone, your caloric intake is about 312 calories.
