How to Soften Brownies
Brownies dry out easily, especially if they weren’t stored properly. Even when kept in an air-tight container, brownies tend to lose their moisture within a couple of days. Fillings such as fudge, pudding and other moist fillings tend to lose texture as well.
Brownies dry out easily, especially if they weren't stored properly. Even when kept in an air-tight container, brownies tend to lose their moisture within a couple of days. Fillings such as fudge, pudding and other moist fillings tend to lose texture as well. Fresh baked brownies are often so soft they practically melt in your in your mouth. If you notice that your brownies are losing this feature, you can soften them up and preserve the moisture a little longer, too. It only takes a few seconds and they will melt in your mouth again.
Step 1
Place a damp paper towel on a microwave safe dish. You can spray the paper towel with a spray bottle filled with fresh water or wet a paper towel and wring out the excess water.
Step 2
Place a single layer of brownies on the dish. The sides of the brownies may touch each other, but don't put brownies on top of each other.
Step 3
Apply another damp paper towel on top of the brownies. You now have brownies sandwiched between two damp paper towels.
Step 4
Fold the four ends of the paper towels closed. This helps moisturize the sides of brownies too, not just the top and bottom of the brownies.
Step 5
Cook the brownies in the microwave for 30 seconds. Check the brownies and see if they are moist enough for you. Microwave oven times vary. If they are not moist enough after 30 seconds, continue cooking in 15 second increments.
Step 6
Keep the brownies moist. Use an air-tight container to store brownies or wrap aluminum foil tightly around a bake pan or other storage container. Alternatively, place a piece of bread in the air-tight container to keep the brownies moist. The bread prevents moisture loss. Just separate the bread from the brownies with a piece of wax paper, just enough to keep the bread from touching the brownies. Use the bread technique to keep cookies moist too.
Tip
Replace the oil used in the brownie recipe with applesauce.
