Frozen, preformed ground-beef patties are a quick, economical and easy way to grill hamburgers for a crowd. If time allows, you can defrost the beef patties in the refrigerator prior to grilling.

However, if you need the burgers in a hurry or don't have enough refrigerator space to thaw large amounts of frozen burgers, you can grill the patties directly from the freezer. Always check the manufacturer's instructions on the label for specific information about cooking your particular brand of beef patty.

Preheat the grill to medium-low. That's 325 degrees Fahrenheit for a gas grill, or until you can hold your hand comfortably three inches above a charcoal grill grate for six to seven seconds.

Use a butter knife to separate the number of burger patties you want to grill from the stack of frozen patties. Rewrap any remaining patties and put them back in the freezer.

Place the frozen beef patties on the grill. Using a metal flipper, turn the patties about every five minutes for 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove one of the patties from the grill and place it on a clean plate. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature of the patty has reached 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tip

If your grill has sections that are hotter than others, be certain to move the burger patties around to ensure that they cook at the same rate.

You can also grill frozen burger patties in a countertop grilling machine. Heat the appliance to medium and grill the patties for between 12 to 16 minutes, depending on your grilling machine's specific instructions.

warning

To avoid contamination, wash your hands thoroughly after handling frozen, raw beef patties. Also, never place grilled burgers on the plate that carried the uncooked patties.

When checking the internal temperature of grilled burgers, always remove the patty from the grill first, and insert the meat thermometer into the side of the patty, not straight down into it.
