Cloud eggs, which feature a bright-yellow yolk resting in a pillowy bed of egg whites, are gorgeous and oh-so photogenic.

You may have noticed there's been a lot of recent buzz around this breakfast dish. And why shouldn't there be? It's not only stunning, but also scrumptious, low in carbs and packed with protein.

But cloud eggs are actually a 400-year-old French dish, Daniel Gritzer, culinary director at Serious Eats, told NPR. Back in 1651, a recipe called Oeufs a la Neige (eggs in snow) was published in the cookbook "Le Cuisinier François."

LIVESTRONG.COM enlisted chef and Instagram star My Nguyen (@myhealthydish_) to re-create the fluffy cloud eggs popularized in France four centuries ago. She breaks down the recipe into easy-to-follow steps so you can make the dish for your next brunch party without breaking a sweat.

One serving of cloud eggs contains about 159 calories, 13 grams of protein, 11 grams of total fat and only 1 gram of total carbohydrates.
