Vodka is the alcohol of choice to create many mixed drinks. Cranberry and vodka, energy drinks and vodka, and vodka and tonic are all popular drinks you can consume during a night of drinking or barhopping with friends. Unfortunately, vodka also has to potential to leave you with a hangover the next morning. According to MayoClinic.com, hangover symptoms include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, bloodshot eyes, lack of concentration and sensitivity to light. Hangovers cure themselves in 24 hours. However, there are steps you can take to help cure a vodka hangover.

Step 1

Be proactive. Prepare yourself for a night of drinking. This can help prevent hangovers. Eat a meal full of carbohydrates, such as pasta and bread. Carbohydrates help absorb alcohol and slow that rate at which alcohol enters your bloodstream.

Step 2

Drink a full glass of water before you go to bed. Water can help flush your body of alcohol and prevent the signs of a hangover when you wake up the next morning.

Step 3

Stay hydrated the next morning. Drink plenty of water and non-carbonated beverages. Drink sports drinks to help replenish electrolyte levels and raise your blood sugar levels -- alcohol can cause your blood sugar levels to drop. Avoid coffee, soda and energy drinks, no matter how tired you may feel. Caffeine can dehydrate you, which can intensify the symptoms of a hangover.

Step 4

Eat light meals if you are feeling nauseous. Plain pasta, crackers and other carbohydrates are easy on your stomach.

Step 5

Take a dose of over-the-counter pain medication for your headache, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, after you eat something.

Step 6

Go back to bed for a few hours to help sleep off your hangover. Time cures even the worst of hangovers.

Tip

To prevent hangovers, drink mixed drinks -- including those with vodka -- early in the night. Switch to beer after a few drinks.
