Ginger has long been used as a spice and herbal remedy. It's often used to treat stomach upset, motion sickness and nausea associated with pregnancy, chemotherapy and surgery. Although ginger can have a soothing effect on the stomach, ginger ale may not offer the same benefits, especially for the relief of gas.

Ginger Ale and Gas

Ginger ale can have a calming effect on your stomach in cases of nausea and stomach upset but may actually aggravate gas. Gas in the digestive system is usually caused by swallowing air and the breakdown of certain foods. You actually swallow more air when you drink carbonated beverages, thus increasing your symptoms of gas. Sticking with a ginger tea is best to help soothe your stomach woes.
