Coors Light was introduced by the Coors Brewing Company in 1978 as a response to the nation's growing interest in fitness and nutrition. It has since become the top selling beer of the brand and the third top selling beer in the United States. It coined the nickname "Silver Bullet" because the silver-toned can caught the eyes of many Americans.

Ingredients

Coors Brewing Company strives to use the highest quality ingredients possible. There are four main ingredients used in beer: water, barley, hops and cereal grains. Based in Colorado at the base of the Rocky Mountains, the company has access to fresh, clear water. Barley is the most important solid ingredient in beer, and Coors is known for growing their own to ensure it is always fresh.

Brewing Process

Step one involves the barley being malted in a three-step process. The barley is cleaned, germinated for growth and roasted for color and flavor. In step two the malt is brewed with rice, refined starches and water. It is then filtered to separate out the liquid extract. Hops are then added to the extract for flavor and aroma. The mixture is then cooled and transferred to fermenting tanks where yeast is added. During the fermentation process, the yeast consumes the sugars and produces alcohol. The beer is then left to age in glass-lined barrels. Lastly, it is sent through a sterile filtration before being sent to be packaged.
