Baking soda is a natural product with uses that extend beyond the kitchen. If you're looking for a way to cheaply and naturally wash baby clothes, baking soda is the only product you need. Not only does it remove odors from clothing, it gets rid of stains, brightens colors and whites, and cleans away everyday dirt and grime just like regular laundry detergent. You'll be washing your precious little one's clothes with a chemical-free product and doing so on the cheap.

Pretreat any tough stains on the baby clothes with a laundry prewash stain remover. Put the baby clothes in the washing machine. Set the machine to the appropriate water temperature setting for the fabrics you are washing and the appropriate load size.

Put 1 cup of warm water into a bowl. Add 1 cup of baking soda and mix well until the baking soda dissolves completely.

Pour the baking soda and water solution into the washing machine. If you have a front loader with a soap dispenser, put the mixture in the dispenser where you would normally put detergent.

Run the baby clothes through a complete wash and rinse cycle. Dry the baby clothes as usual.

Tip

If you still want to use laundry detergent, add the detergent to the washing machine along with ¼ to ½ cup of baking soda to deodorize and brighten colors.
