Trader Joe's is a retail store that sells specialty foods such as imported, gourmet and vegetarian items, along with vitamins, minerals and other health-related products. A whole-body cleanse is a temporary diet designed to flush out toxins stored in the body, aid weight loss and increase general well-being.

Diet Basics

The cleanse involves taking three different types of pills up to eight times per day. One pill is meant to aid digestion, one cleanses the liver and another acts as a fiber supplement. Diet followers must avoid consuming red meat, dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt), processed foods and alcohol.

Duration

The diet is designed to last two weeks and can be completed once every three months.

Pros

The program is a partial non-restrictive diet; despite the ban on several food items, followers are free to plan their daily meals using fruits, vegetables, fish and white meat. This added intake of vitamins and minerals may improve skin, hair, nails and overall well-being. A study published by the Institute of Food Technologists in 2010 found that an increase in fiber helped to reduce cholesterol levels and protect against several cancers.

Cons

Some may have difficulty swallowing large pills and sticking to a two-week program.

Tip

Drink lots of clear liquid; water helps to flush out toxins and speed up the cleansing process.
